When it was built, the venue was named Rosemont Horizon, with intention to be the MISL teams main stadium. The facility was inaugurated in May 15th 1980 with a concert of Fleetwood Mac. In 1999, the Insurance Company Allstate got the naming rights of the venue as part of a million contract. In honor of the basketball legend Ray Meyer and his wife, the arenas floor was named Ray and Marge Meyer Court."
The venue is mainly home to DePaul University men's basketball since 1980. The facility hosted several main sports including the 3 times NCAA basketball tournament in 1987, 1993, and 2005. It also hosted an arena football test game when the league just started in 1987. The Chicago Rush brought back arena football in 2001, and succeeded to draw over than 14,000 and 16,000 fans per game between 2004 and 2008.
The venue has hosted the WrestleMania 3 times, the first in 1986, second in 1997, and the other in 2006. The facility also held different other WWE events including the Wrestling Classic in 1985, the Backlash in 2001, the Night of Champions in 2010, the Extreme Rules in 2012, and many others. Besides, the UFC 90 of 2008 was held in the arena. Among other sports events held in the venue are the Bull Riders events. And for example, the Built Ford Tough Series tour of the years 2006, 2008, 2013 were held in Allstate Arena.
